Juror's Statement
It’s always a daunting task to choose a show like this. Ha!
Based on the inflection, the meaning of this simple word
runs
the gamut from humorous to quizzical, from sarcastic to
bland.
In a few cases, the “H” could’ve been replaced with a “D”,
as the dada object in all its simplicity once again raised
the question, “What is art?” Ultimately, the works I chose
were
based on the artist’s thematic idea and their ability to
carry
out that idea through a specific visual language.
I was impressed with the number of outstanding works,
both that made it in to the show, and also, ones that had
to be cut. There were a number of pieces that were
excellent technically, but which I found difficult to fit
within
the theme. Likewise, there were pieces that fit
thematically,
but were cut in the end due to technical merit or room
constraints.
Congratulations to all award winners, and thanks to
all participants willing to share their vision with us.
