We make every effort to post as
many pieces from each show on the
website as soon as possible after each
show goes up. Lighting conditions,
particularly with pieces behind glass,
often make getting good shots in
the gallery difficult. If your work is
accepted and you would like to make
sure your piece is on the website,
you can e-mail a digital image to
webmaster@artelgallery.org within
three days of the show going up.
Tips for Artists:
Presentation Is
Important
What a shame to have your piece rejected by a juror
because of the frame! But it happens.
Artists who
spend so many hours perfecting
a work of art sometimes
give little
thought to the framing.
If you want your
work to look professional,
it must be presented in a
professional way.
Here are a few tips to increase your
chances of having
your piece accepted:
1.
Select a frame which complements your piece, instead
of detracting from it.
Consider width, color, design,
texture and quality.
When in doubt, go with a simple frame of high quality.
2. Avoid frames which overpower your work.
You want the viewer to focus on the
piece, not the frame.
3.
Choose a frame which has sturdy hardware and use wire
to hang.
String breaks easily and may cause your piece to fall
from the wall and be
damaged.
Avoid cheap ready-made frames
if at all possible. Make sure all hardware is secure.
Hardware which requires more than one nail makes a
piece
very difficult to hang.
4.
Other tips: no wet paint; no business cards on the
front of your work;
no chipped, scratched or cracked glass;
no chipped frames or frames separated at the seams.

ARTEL GALLERY
HURRICANE PLAN
Artel does not have insurance to cover damage to or loss of art in the event of a hurricane.
Artists
will be responsible for removing art work from Artel if they wish to do so.
Artel will make all reasonable efforts to be available to open gallery for artists wishing to remove work prior
to a hurricane.
Information will be left on Artel’s voice message system to inform artists as to when the gallery will be
open for removal.
Any
art work left at the gallery past the deadline for removal will be unaccessible
until after the storm, as Historic
Pensacola
Village
may board up the premises when they deem necessary.
As
in the case of Hurricane Ivan, Artel will make every effort to protect art work left in the building and/or to remove
it as soon after the storm as possible if damage to the building has occurred.
If
no damage to the premises occurs and the gallery is accessible, Artel will reopen as soon as possible after the
hurricane passes. Artists should make all reasonable attempts to return any removed art work to the gallery for the
continuation of the exhibit.
Although
no artwork was damaged during Hurricane Ivan, Artel makes no guarantees of any kind regarding future storms,
since we cannot predict what the nature of any damage might be.
