Pensacola’s premier non-profit contemporary art gallery

Our Story

We’re a non-profit run entirely by volunteers. Artel Gallery was founded in 1993 to foster appreciation for art in its purest form without concern for commercial marketability. Its mission is to provide the Northwest Florida region with a continuous forum for quality experimental and contemporary art exhibitions and programs dedicated to the enrichment and education of the community.

Whether by challenging artists to interpret themes or by providing educational programs, Artel Gallery seeks to evoke a creative response and inspire artists to create work that is innovative and provocative in technique, media and/or content. Neither a co-op or a retail gallery, Artel is an experimental institution, the only one of its kind in Northwest Florida.

  • Benefits

Volunteers receive a free annual membership after 30 hours of volunteer work (The 30 hours must be in the same calendar year). Volunteers who are already members receive one free entry to any juried show (except Cinco Banderas) for 25 hours of volunteer work within any continuous six-month period. The free entry must be used within one year from acquiring the 25 hours, and you must be a current Artel member to use it.

  • Gallery Sitting

Gallery Sitters: Artel is an all-volunteer organization and depends on the generosity of those who have a few hours a month to give. We would love to welcome you! Artel is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 – 4. Shifts are from 10 – 1 or 1 – 4. We require a minimum three-hour commitment per month (1 sitting/month), although you are welcome to do more if convenient for you.

A 45-minute training session is usually conducted at the beginning of your first shift. You then will need to remain to finish your shift. Someone is always available by phone if you need assistance.

Email your contact information to the gallery, info@artelgallery.org and note ‘sitter’ in the subject line. Our coordinator will be in touch!

  • Gallery Night Team

Gallery Night Team: Gallery Night is held on the third Friday of each month and we can always use help in assisting the participating artists to set up, tear down, and monitor the gallery. If you are interested in joining the team, contact Chris Rojas, nickelgirl567@icloud.com for more information.

  • Drop Off

Exhibition Committee: Every 6-7 weeks the exhibit changes and there are a lot of moving parts to coordinate: artist check in & drop off, hanging the show and helping with the reception. Contact Hope Mastroianni at (612) 404-4767 or hopemastroianni@gmail.com to learn more and lend a hand.
